4/27/13   We held our first adoption event at Carters Pet Depot in Houston TX

In the coming months I will be petitioning the Houston area assisted living

facilities to

allow their residents to have pets

or for the facility to adopt it's own pet and let the people share it.

see below:

People love their pets. More than 60 percent of U.S. households include pets,

and those pet owners pour $41 billion a year into pet care . This may seem like

a lot . But when you consider the fact that owning a pet could very likely add

years to your life, a pet can quickly seem like a wise investment.

Specifically, people who owned cats were 30 percent less likely to suffer a

Heart Attack. Although those researchers cannot make the same conclusions

based on the data they gathered, they suspect a dog study would provide

similar results.

That study merely adds to the existing evidence that shows how animals can

benefit human health. For example, psychologists have found reason to believe

that owning a dog helps lower your blood pressure And other research shows

that pets help us feel better overall

I've started the petition "Assisted Living facilities in the Houston Texas area
:
Accept pets with the people that are entering their facility" and need your help to

get it off the ground.

Will you take 30 seconds to sign it right now? Here's the link:

Here's why it's important:

entering an assisted living facility is the number 1 reason people have to abandon

their pets

A friend in her own words

All my adult life I have been blessed with wonderful canine companions. They have lifted my spirits when life

was not easy, given me unquestioning loyalty and love when I needed it. Filled the house with joy, even after

the children grew up and went away. I cannot imagine not having a furry friend at the front door waiting for me

to come home or hound me to take a walk. I owe so much to all the animals I have known. The thought of

having to abandon my dogs in order to enter an assisted living facility is a nightmare I don't want to encounter
